Bread has a heavy memory.
Old house in the old city in Tallinn.
Stairwell to the attic, the doorways leading into the attic are blocked up with traditional limestone and motar. Bread, with mouthfulls bitten out of them, are cast in iron, made rusty and placed on each step of the stairs. A video of a baker’s hands, kneading and pummelling dough to make bread is shown continuously at the top of the stairs.
Baker Street in Tallinn was the site of the former KGB head-quarters and holds specific associations for Estonians.
