Still life with Windmills - Hobusepea Gallery, Tallinn 2016 The starting point for the work shown here was aspects of still life. And though traditionally still life has an element reminding us of our mortality, I have reversed the notion so that perhaps in death there is an element of life. Perhaps an existential approach considering the aging process, sex and death. These ideas have been assimilated into a kind of narrative connected with an early memory and the symbolism of a windmill being a clock, or in this instance a stopped clock. Formally I have been trying to link the imediacy of my drawing process to the making of objects – so in someways the work has been more aesthetic than is usual for me. |
