Resurrection The Old Boiler House in the Tallinn Botanic Gardens - Mid Winter 1998. The heart and the memory of the Gardens and Greenhouses. Its old soviet technology falling to pieces, dark, dirty, leaking, dangerous and very noisy. Yet still it functions – just. One boiler is dismantled enough to install a video screen internally which is viewed through an open door through which the boiler is fed. As people enter the boiler-house, the machines start up with a tremendous noise, like old dinosaurs. On the screen can be seen waltzing in slow motion the Romanian Dictator, Causescieu, and his wife. At one end of the boiler-house, a young couple, waltz slowly to Romanian folk music, illuminated by UV light. The work is about memory - Collective memory – and its failure. Download video 1 |
